cider-debug-use-overlays is a customizable variable defined in cider-debug.el.

Whether to highlight debugging information with overlays.

Takes the same possible values as cider-eval-result-display, but only applies to values displayed during debugging sessions. To control the overlay that lists possible keys above the current function, configure cider-debug-prompt instead.

This variable was added, or its default value changed, in cider version 0.9.1.
