auto-hscroll-mode is a customizable variable defined in xdisp.c.

Allow or disallow automatic horizontal scrolling of windows.

The value current-line means the line displaying point in each window is automatically scrolled horizontally to make point visible. Any other non-nil value means all the lines in a window are automatically scrolled horizontally to make point visible.

This variable was added, or its default value changed, in Emacs 26.1.
