dictionary-default-strategy is a customizable variable defined in
dictionary.el.gz.

The default strategy for listing matching words.
The value should be a string. The special value "." means
the default search strategy for dictionary-server in use.
Other values are specific to servers and dictionaries.
In a dictionary-mode buffer, you can use
M-x dictionary-select-strategy (dictionary-select-strategy) to change the buffer-local value;
it will show the available strategies from which you can choose.
To change the value for other buffers, customize this option
using M-x customize-option (customize-option).
This variable was added, or its default value changed, in Emacs 28.1.
