tramp-syntax is a customizable variable defined in tramp.el.gz.

Tramp filename syntax to be used.

It can have the following values:

  default -- Default syntax
  simplified -- Ange-FTP like syntax
  separate -- Syntax as defined for XEmacs originally

Do not change the value by setq, it must be changed only via Customize. See also tramp-change-syntax.

This variable was added, or its default value changed, in Tramp version 2.3.3.
